Raise the minimum wage: It's patriotic

In 1997, Congress raised the federal minimum wage to $5.15 an hour. Almost 10 years later, the minimum wage has not changed due to the Republican control of Congress and their overwhelming interest in business. Now that the Democrats have taken over, the lower class workers and teenagers are finally getting noticed.

On Jan. 10, The House of Representatives passed HR 2, or what is now known as the Fair Minimum Wage act of 2007. The bill passed with flying colors, receiving 223 positive Democrat votes as well as 82 republican votes. The total vote was 315 "yes" to 116 "no.
