Article: Horse park plans scrapped

The equestrian center planned for the former Naval Academy Dairy Farm in Gambrills has been stopped at the gate.

"The state of Maryland will not be putting in a bid for an Anne Arundel County horse park," said Jim Steele, chairman of the state Horse Industry Board.

Mr. Steele announced the decision today at a regularly scheduled board meeting.

Working in conjunction with the Horse Industry Board, the Maryland Stadium Authority had eyed the 857-acre property for a horse park complete with seating for 5,000, show rings, a cross country course and other equestrian staples. It would have cost around $114 million.
