Article: County passes on golf course

The future of a nine-hole golf course surrounded by woods and homes on Annapolis' outskirts is up in the air after county officials said they don't want to acquire and preserve the property.

The $1.2 billion budget plan unveiled by County Executive John R. Leopold yesterday contained no money to buy the Annapolis Golf Club property in Annapolis Roads.

Dennis Callahan, Mr. Leopold's chief administrative officer, said the administration has no plans in the future to buy the roughly 80- acre course. Mr. Leopold's predecessor, Janet S. Owens, said in her last budget message she hoped to preserve all the land in Annapolis Roads.
