BALTIMORE (AP) - One of the largest federal commands moving to
Maryland in the national military realignment announced yesterday
that it has opened a telecommuting center at Fort Meade.
This is the first step for the Defense Information Systems Agency
to move its 4,300 workers to the Army Post.
The agency is the first in place in Maryland among those
transferring here as part of the base realignment and closure, or
BRAC. The process will bring tens of thousands of defense jobs to
Maryland over the next five years.
"BRAC has been this intangible thing to a lot of us," Fort Meade's
commander, Col. Kenneth O. McCreedy, said after a ceremony. "It
