The Department of Natural Resources says a new plan will help it
make sure money for preserving land is spent on the most
environmentally important places.
The DNR planned to unveil the new criteria today at the Board of
Public Works meeting at the State House. The criteria have been in
the works since February.
The development is part of a campaign promise by Gov. Martin
O'Malley to strengthen the choices of Program Open Space, a pot of
money funded by a portion of the real estate tax to help the state in
preserving land.
More than $176 million of Program Open Space money was set aside
for the state and local governments this year.
