Article: Doctors encourage mothers-to-be to exercise

Doctors say exercise for expectant mothers is beneficial in many regards. It improves posture and appearance, reduces backaches, bloating and swelling, and improves circulation.

Exercise also increases endurance and energy level, two reservoirs needed during pregnancy.

Tim Bracey, senior director of West Jefferson Medical Center Fitness Center, said it is important to exercise while pregnant because of the added stress to the body.

"A fit body functions better," he said. "Exercise not only improves strength and fitness but also help with a woman's self- image."
