Local restaurants hope the lure of a po-boy will be greater than
the lure of the cigarette now that a statewide ban on smoking in
restaurants is in effect.
A ban on smoking in Louisiana's restaurants, public buildings and
most places of employment went into effect at the start of the New
Year.
Matthew Butcher, kitchen manager for Acme Oyster House on Veterans
Memorial Boulevard, said he expects a slight negative impact but so
far, so good.
"On New Year's Day when it first started, we were full. People
didn't seem to be having a problem. They were in here drinking their
Bloody Marys."
Smoking still is allowed in bars, casinos, horse racing tracks,
off-track betting facilities, bingo halls, ...
