Article: Piatt zoning board approves compromise plan on gravel pit

MANSFIELD - A proposal to build a gravel pit and access road near Mansfield has advanced to the Piatt County Board after the developer offered location options to satisfy concerns from neighbors.

Paul Reynolds' request for a special-use permit for a gravel pit east of Newton Street was approved in his second appearance before the Piatt County Zoning Board of Appeals.

The permit would allow Reynolds to build a one-quarter-mile access road going north across railroad tracks to U.S. 150. It also would stipulate that the gravel pit can operate only during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
