There is a subtle difference between an herb and a spice. Although most herbs come from leaves and seeds, spices come from fruit, roots, bark and berries. There are some exceptions.

The roots of some herbs are useful, as are the leaves of some spices. One can also classify temperate-climate plants as herbs and tropical plants as spices. Spices have more flavors or are hotter to the taste than herbs.
