Article: Sunkist orange packing house stirs memories for a few readers

Not too many readers recognized last week's "Recognize This?" photo, which was of the Sunkist packing house in Highland. Only two phone calls were received, but both callers gave a plethora of information.

According to Brian Lewis of Highland, the building pictured burned down some time ago because of the wax used in orange shipping. It was rebuilt to be two times bigger than the original building.

Ned Gonzales, a lifelong resident of Redlands, remembered this and other area packing houses from his childhood.

"As a kid, there were lots of packing houses here," he said. "And both myself and my parents worked in a lot of them."
