Article: Arts Commission rethinks public art ordinance

REDLANDS - The Cultural Arts Commission decided Tuesday to rethink its proposed public arts ordinance.

Modeling the ordinance after other local college towns such as Claremont, it would require a developer's fee, making public art mandatory with new development in Redlands.

The commission's sub-committee met in February to discuss objections made by the Planning Commission. Planning commissioners said the ordinance would discourage developers and asked what would happen if there were no more development in Redlands.

Commissioners also said that money was needed to fix the streets and that is where any extra money should go.
