Article: Smoke ends LB City Council meeting prematurely

LONG BEACH Minutes after the City Council approved a key Harbor Commission appointment, the busy Tuesday meeting came to an abrupt halt as firefighters investigated smoke coming from above the Council Chambers.

The origin of the smoke was being determined, but firefighters evacuated City Hall and the council adjourned the meeting at about 8:45 p.m. The meeting's end came as the council was beginning debate over a proposed breakwater study.

That item was postponed for two weeks.
