LONG BEACH - Officers cited 247 people for illegal possession of
fireworks and arrested four teens for making homemade bottle bombs,
but there were no reports of serious injuries or fireworks-related
blazes in Long Beach during the Fourth of July holiday weekend,
officials said.
More than 120 extra police officers and 20 additional firefighters
were deployed throughout Long Beach on Independence Day to crack down
on the widespread use of illegal fireworks. The 247 cited for
fireworks possession face misdemeanor charges, including fines of up
to $1,000.
Last July 4, police issued only 59 citations.
