LONG BEACH -- The city and its Los Alamitos neighbor have won a
bid to host the 2007 FINA Men's World Junior Water Polo
Championships, an international event that promises to draw thousands
of visitors from around the world.
Long Beach was chosen partly because of the success of the 2004
U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, said Rich Foster, USA Water Polo president.
The choice was made during a recent FINA board meeting in Shanghai
after competitor nations Australia and Spain bowed out.
The event is set to take place at Cal State Long Beach and the USA
Water Polo National Training Center in Los Alamitos with 24 college-
level teams from across the world competing from August 19-27, 2007.
