Article: L.B. city manager retiring

LONG BEACH - City Manager Gerald Miller announced Friday at a retreat for management employees that he will leave his post by next summer, according to those who attended the all-day meeting.

Miller, who began his term in May 2003, broke the news during a question-and-answer session when someone asked him how long he would stay on the job.

When reached by phone late Friday, Miller declined to confirm the announcement until he spoke with the mayor and City Council members, who are his supervisors.

Miller's comments stunned those attending the meeting.
