Sacramento lawmakers may bar a common food additive found in
shortening, baked goods and french fries because Californians are
apparently incapable of making sound dietary decisions.
Republican Bonnie Garcia of Cathedral City has proposed banning
trans fats from restaurants and other establishments that sell food,
and her legislation is expected to pass. She got the idea from New
York City, which recently banned trans fats from restaurants.
Never mind that the science remains inconclusive, that restaurant
chains are moving away from trans fats due to shifts in customer
demand and that health experts say the most common substitutes,
saturated fats, carry more serious risks, the Nanny State ...
