Article: San Marino cedes a borderline back yard to San Gabriel

SAN MARINO -- Many wars have been fought by nations seeking to enlarge their territories, but San Marino officials plan to willingly cede a small slice of their city to neighboring San Gabriel.

Once all the paperwork is completed, San Marino will be 9,440 square feet smaller.

The land in question is part of the backyard of a 1927 Spanish- style cottage on San Gabriel's Vineyard Drive. The cottage itself and the portion of the yard that abuts it are in San Gabriel, but the rest of the yard lies inside San Marino's borders.
