PASADENA -- Councilman Steve Madison has told the following story
several times.
A little more than a year ago, he got an angry letter from a
constituent. Gray Davis was about to be recalled, and the letter-
writer threatened to start a recall drive against Madison.
"My wife was standing over my shoulder, and she said, 'Where do I
send the check?'' Madison said.
The story can come up in two contexts: first, when Madison is
asked about bitter community opposition to some position he's taken;
and second, when the topic is the difficulty of balancing his family,
his demanding schedule as a trial lawyer and his political career.
