Russian President Boris Yeltsin today issued a sweeping order on
the privatization of land that calls for the rapid reorganization of
collective and state farms and encourages a sharp increase in the
number of private plots before spring planting.
In Georgia, meanwhile, troops loyal to President Zviad
Gamsakhurdia and rebels seeking his overthrow agreed tonight to a
cease-fire and the start of negotiations over how to resolve
fighting that has left at least 51 people dead and hundreds injured
