Article: Cabin owners say evacuation order unwise

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST -- Steve Burns would hate to see his cabin burn, but he's ready if the worst happens.

Last weekend he cleared the brush around his cabin. He packed up a visitor logbook he considers irreplaceable. And he locked the doors until the rains come.

Burns is one of more than 100 cabin owners who were ordered out by the U.S. Forest Service over the weekend. About 80 percent of the 656,000-acre forest was closed to the public Monday because of risk of wildfire.

"I understand the fire danger is extreme, it's worse than it's ever been,' said Burns, who is president of a local cabin-owners group. "We're cooperating with the evacuation now, but we're trying to negotiate for a ...
