Article: Police stay busy tracking down illegal fireworks

SANTA FE SPRINGS

Whittier police were out in force Monday night in search of illegal fireworks and the people who set them off.

But finding them isn't easy.

"Sometimes you'll see it, drive around the corner and nobody's there,' said Sgt. Terry McAllister of the Whittier Police Department that services Santa Fe Springs.

But Monday night there seemed to be as many illegal fireworks as ever.

"The smoke is billowing,' McAllister said. "It's all you can see. It's like a little battle zone.'

This was the fourth year of stepped-up enforcement in Santa Fe Springs.

"The city's policy when it comes to illegal fireworks is zero tolerance,' said Fernando Tarin, director of police services.
