EL MONTE - After nearly 46 years in the workforce, 30 of them with
the city of El Monte, City Manager Juan Mireles is retiring.
"I've been working since I was 14, and I feel like I've put in a
good amount of time working, and now I need some rest," said Mireles,
who will turn 60 this year. "I need a break."
Mireles, who has held several posts in El Monte over three
decades, will be replaced by Assistant City Manager Jim Mussenden
effective July 1, city officials announced Tuesday.
City Council members elected to hire from within the
administration, seeking "continuity" in leadership for the city's
ongoing projects, said Matthew Weintraub, El Monte's administrative
service officer.
