Article: 'Cyber Monday' aims to Net shoppers

As the holiday weekend sprees at brick-and-mortar stores wrap up, online retailers will vie for consumers' attention with their version of a national shopping event.

"Cyber Monday," the e-version of "Black Friday," was so dubbed in 2005 by the National Retail Federation's online branch, Shop.org, to generate excitement among consumers.

It targets the office crowd - figuring that's where people shop the Web, with or without a wink from the boss - with promotions at an anticipated 400 online stores.

A study commissioned by Shop.org found that 61 million people are expected to shop online from work this year, compared with 51.7 million last year.
