Article: Council chambers revamp OK'd

ROSEMEAD - Anyone who has visited the City Council chambers can come up with a laundry list of complaints about the 1950s facility.

The orange-colored chair upholstery is tearing, the carpet is stained and the dais is not handicapped accessible.

A no-smoking sign above a doorway reads, "No Soking," a white board is held together by duct tape, and the upholstery and carpet were last replaced in the 1950s.

"You can't hear," said Marlene Shinon, 66, who has regularly attended council meetings for the past three years. "It is a faulty sound system, and we haven't been able to hear for years."
