Legislation allowing Wisconsin residents to carry concealed
weapons is probably dead this year.
The state Assembly recently passed the bill, 58-40, that would end
the state's 130-year-old ban on concealed weapons. State Sen. Brian
Burke, D-Milwaukee, emphasized the bill has no chance in the Democrat-
controlled Senate.
State Sen. Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center, said State Sen. Chuck
Chvala (D-Madison, Senate Majority Leader) is a strong opponent, but
added "anything can happen."
"Maybe it's dead this time around, but I'm sure we'll hear about
it again," said Grant County Sheriff Keith Govier, who noted the
current legislation has roots dating back to 1998.
