Politics can make for some strange alliances and sometimes for
some unexpected divisions.
The Dubuque County Farm Bureau has broken ranks with the Iowa Farm
Bureau Federation on which candidate to support in the U.S. Senate
race this fall.
Earlier this month the state farm bureau's political action
committee designated Democratic Senator Tom Harkin a Friend of
Agriculture - the organization's stamp of approval for the upcoming
November election. The designation is given to those candidates the
committee believes support agriculture and farm bureau policy.
The incumbent Harkin is facing Republican challenger Rep. Greg
Ganske in Iowa's U.S. Senate race this year.
