The Library of Congress is turning a new page in its efforts to
attract new readers and new supporters. Yesterday it inaugurated a
council of some of the country's wealthiest people and revealed new
efforts to reach a national audience.
One new enterprise may be a monthly magazine about culture and
libraries, expected to attract an audience similar to that of
Smithsonian magazine.
Yesterday members of the new James Madison National Council had
breakfast, lunch and dinner and a grand tour of the Library's
facilities, including a sampling of the almost 100 million books and
