The Swiss Valley Nature Center is growing.
Construction is well under way for a major addition to the
educational and interpretive center at Dubuque County's Swiss Valley
Nature Preserve. The 7,500-square-foot addition will house an
auditorium, classroom and display areas.
The new facility will be directly west of the current nature
center. Dubuque County Conservation Director Bob Walton said the
current facility is too small to host large groups for educational
programs.
The cost is estimated at $960,000. Of that, the state's Resource
Enhancement and Protection program contributed $327,000. The project
also received a $100,000 Iowa Department of Natural Resources grant.
