STOCKTON, Ill. - You won't see flashing lights, automatic scoring
machines or an endless sea of alleys at Stockton Bowling Lanes.
Nor will you hear rock music or the boisterous laughter of people
who have had too much to drink.
Instead, you will see one of a dying breed of old-fashioned, small-
town bowling alleys, the only one left in Jo Daviess County. You will
hear the low rumble-rumble of bowling balls on a solid maple floor
and the friendly chatter of families, friends and neighbors enjoying
a line or two.
Ira and Betty Stayner and Ira's parents, John and Cora Stayner,
built the bowling alley in 1949. "Quonset huts were real popular
during those years," Betty said.
