Don't go looking for that bottle of merlot in the preventive
medicine aisle - not just yet, anyway. Although studies have linked
red wine with a reduced risk of heart disease and a reduced risk of
leukemia, skin, breast and prostate cancer, dietitians caution there
is a fine line between healthy drinking and risky drinking.
"We're not talking about (drinking) half a bottle," said Kim
Peterman, a dietitian at The Finley Hospital, "but a small glass or
two with a meal can work fine."
Studies have examined the role of red wine's flavonoids and other
antioxidants in reducing heart disease and cancer risk.
