Article: Harkin vows support for community health center; 'Need is proven': He says it has an excellent chance of getting federal money

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, pledged his support for a Dubuque community health center.

Then he predicted its chances for receiving federal funding.

"I believe it is excellent," Harkin said. "They have got the community on board, and the need has been proven here."

Harkin met with center organizers Saturday at Clarke College.

A broad-based coalition, including officials from Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque and The Finley Hospital, aim to apply in April for federal funding that would create a community health center.

Community health centers receive federal funding to provide comprehensive primary care services to medically under-served populations.
