NOW IT is time to see how many of the senators who talk about winning the drug war are ready to give President Bush an important message for President Barco of Colombia. This week, the Senate is scheduled to consider legislation that responds to the Colombian president's request to Mr. Bush and Congress for help in stopping the flow of combat weapons-military assault-style weapons-to the drug cartels. Specifically, the legislation, S.747, would prohibit the import, sale and domestic manufacture of 14 kinds of assault weapons.
