Article: Duplex raises attention; Developer says city does not need another parking lot

A Dubuque developer wants to stop a parking lot from replacing an architecturally significant duplex on Central Avenue.

John Gronen, president of Gronen Restoration, said he spoke with the owner of the building earlier this week and would strongly consider buying the property before the Dubuque Colts Drum and Bugle Corps schedules bulldozers to raze the structure.

Gronen views the fate of this property as being greater than saving one architecturally significant structure.

"Dubuque does not need another corner parking lot." he said. "If we are going to tear the building down, let's improve the area. Adding a parking lot is not going to do it."
