Article: Lawmakers approve corporate tax break; Governor had pushed for the bill's passage

MADISON (AP) - A corporate tax break that would cost the state $45 million per year when fully implemented was approved Wednesday by the Legislature as part of a plan some lawmakers say would help Wisconsin's ailing economy.

Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle had urged the Legislature to pass the tax break for businesses, and spokesman Dan Leistikow said Wednesday the governor would sign the bill.

The Senate approved the legislation 24-9 early Wednesday and sent it to the Assembly, which approved the bill 67-24 later in the day.

Republicans, who control both houses of the Legislature, were joined by some Democrats in support of the bill, which they said would spark the economic growth the state ...
