The following is taken from the ABC "Nightline" program on Feb.
8, a few days before yesterday's announcement that Nelson Mandela
would be freed. In the broadcast, Ted Koppel interviewed
SouthAfrican Foreign Minister Roelof "Pik" Botha, his counterpart
with the African National Congress, Thabo Mbeki, and the chief
minister of the Zulu nation, Mangosuthu Buthelezi:
Botha: We'vegot to look to the future now. We must outlive the
past. We must build together a new South Africa, and that new South
Africa will have to be based on economic growth, in order to create
better jobs for our people, and housing and training and education
