Article: Farm Bureau awards speaker, agricultural group; Gary Lahr recognized for taking time to communicate the importance of farming

DES MOINES - Speaking up doesn't come naturally to most people, and certainly farmers are no different. But a few years ago Worthington, Iowa, farmer Gary Lahr decided he needed to tell farming's story to his non-farm neighbors.

This week, Lahr was recognized as Ag Spokesperson of the Year at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting in Des Moines. The award recognizes Farm Bureau members who voluntarily take time to communicate agriculture's importance. Lahr is president of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau.

Lahr admitted to being a "bundle of nerves" during his first media interview, but has since become more comfortable talking in public
