The District's public high school and junior high spring sports
seasons, scheduled to begin in six weeks, remain in doubt because of
continuing problems complying with a court order requiring that
medical personnel be present at all scholastic athletic events.
Yesterday, D.C. Councilmembers H.R. Crawford and Jim Nathanson
said they were hopeful emergency legislation could alleviate the
immediate problem facing the five spring sports, but School Board
President Nathaniel Bush was dubious.
Their assessments followed a public forum at the District
Building to discuss amendments to the 1987 Nurse Assignment Act,
which requires that a nurse or certified athletic trainer be present
at all high ...
