Article: Committee lifts concealed weapons ban; The bill must pass both houses of the Legislature and be signed by Gov. Jim Doyle to become law

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state's 130-year-old ban on concealed weapons would be lifted under legislation a state Senate committee approved Monday after making changes supporters said would generate more support for the bill.

Three Republicans on the Senate Judiciary, Corrections and Privacy Committee voted in favor of the bill; the committee's two Democrats were not in attendance.

Sen. Dave Zien, R-Eau Claire, the committee's chairman and one of the bill's authors, said the proposal would go before the full Senate for a vote next week.

It has to pass both houses of the Legislature and be signed by Gov. Jim Doyle to become law.
