Hazel Green debates police cutbacks; Citizens present petition to keep 2 part-time officers on force

HAZEL GREEN, Wis. - The village of Hazel Green is a safe place to live. Its 1,200 residents want it to stay that way.

At Tuesday night's village board meeting, several citizens expressed their concerns about rumored cuts to the Hazel Green Police Department budget - which could reduce the force by one-third. Hazel Green has two full-time police officers and two part-time officers that equate to one full-time position.

"Nothing has been put in writing," said Howard Hull, village board president. "This has to be decided at budget time."
