WAUSAU (AP) - The first U.S. case of mad cow disease brings both
positives and negatives to Wisconsin's efforts to deal with a similar
fatal brain disease in wild deer, researchers said Thursday.
"Very clearly, there needs to be a lot more testing on cattle in
the U.S. Will this divert some of the efforts toward deer disease? I
guess that is possible," University of Wisconsin-Madison Professor
Judd Aiken said.
For nearly two decades, Aiken has researched the prion afflictions
commonly called mad cow and chronic wasting diseases.
Aiken's concern about future testing capabilities came as chronic
