Article: Cheney rebukes Kerry; Vice president says the Democrat does not have a grip on defense issues

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Campaigning in a hotly contested state, Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday that Americans should feel more secure about a terrorist threat with George Bush in the White House than with a Democrat.

During a speech and question-and-answer session at American Memorial Serb Hall, Cheney focused heavily on terrorism and the war in Iraq, saying Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and his running mate don't take the threat seriously enough.

"Tough talk in a debate cannot obscure a 30-year record of being on the wrong side of every defense issue," Cheney said of Kerry, a Massachusetts senator.
