Article: Swiss Valley Nature Center displays progress; Conservation board hosts open house to show off accomplishments

Swiss Valley Nature Preserve's Nature Center has come a long way since it was conceived 15 years ago by the Dubuque County Conservation Board.

Saturday, conservation board members and staff showed off the result of those years of planning at an open house.

While the rooms were still mostly empty, the conservation board plans to fill the 10,000 square feet of space with historical and wildlife displays, including live exhibits. Already, the center has hosted numerous educational meetings. Around 6,000 to 7,000 students from eastern Iowa schools have visited the facility this year, said Brian Preston, naturalist for the Dubuque County Conservation Board.
