DES MOINES (AP) - Democrats are beginning a yearlong study of the
primary calendar, a move viewed by some as an effort to cut into the
heavy influence Iowa and New Hampshire wield in presidential
politics.
Rep. David Price, D-N.C., one of the heads of the 40-member
commission studying the schedule, said he isn't launching the study
with the assumption that changes need to be made.
"I do not think our nominating process is necessarily seriously in
need of repair," Price said in a conference call with reporters. "I
come to this with an open mind. This commission isn't being appointed
because this process failed."
