Cookbook points to state's origins; Hazel Green, Wis., community group is launched with a collection of recipes

The point of beginning is, of course, where something starts. And, every project, job, process, church, community and organization has to start somewhere.

That was the thinking of the members of the recently formed Hazel Green (Wis.) Community Development Corporation when they decided to publish a new cookbook.

As drivers roll along Wisconsin 80, north of the Illinois border, they come upon a historical marker which proclaims: "Hazel Green - Point of Beginning - Welcomes You."

This spot, a survey point, was marked in 1831 by Lucius Lyon, a surveyor, who helped establish the baseline and 4th principal meridian used to determine townships in what would become the state of Wisconsin.
