Three girls at a kitchen table

We smell grease bacon

Smiling at Dad and the lens. But then,

Ellen chased Michele

Into a bedroom dresser and

Michele slit open her forehead

Ellen cried

Mom screamed

Dad wiped blood and tears away

Michele became the smartest one

In the family

Small bloody teeth marks

In Ellen's little black blue back

A token of Michele toddler retaliation.

More tears and screams

Bruises on my legs

A peacekeepers payment

For preventing further damage

No tears for the oldest child to shed
