YUCCA VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Firefighters concentrated Monday on
protecting mountain hamlets near a cluster of wildfires east of Los
Angeles, as storms brewed that could bring much-needed rain.
Skies were clouding over in the San Bernardino National Forest,
where the edge of one of the fires was only a few miles from the tiny
town of Rainbow and just eight miles from Big Bear, a community of
thousands.
No evacuations were called and firefighters were making progress
on corralling the blaze, roughly a square mile in size, with the help
of aircraft and higher humidity, officials said.
"I think things are going real well," said Rich Phelps, a U.S.
Forest Service spokesman. "The greatest thing ...
