Article: Oh, deer! Mines of Spain to open for hunting; The 2-session deer hunting season begins Saturday

If it's shotgun deer hunting season in Iowa, it means the Mines of Spain State Recreation Area, along Dubuque's southeast side, is open to deer hunting.

The two-session season begins Saturday. The first season runs Saturday through Wednesday, Dec. 2-6; the second season runs Dec. 9- 17. A large portion of the area is open to hunting. Areas closed to hunting and classified as refuge areas include:

*The area around the E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center to Granger Creek.

*All park areas north of Catfish Creek.

*An area adjacent to the parking lots near Olde Massey Road.
