If it's shotgun deer hunting season in Iowa, it means the Mines of
Spain State Recreation Area, along Dubuque's southeast side, is open
to deer hunting.
The two-session season begins Saturday. The first season runs
Saturday through Wednesday, Dec. 2-6; the second season runs Dec. 9-
17. A large portion of the area is open to hunting. Areas closed to
hunting and classified as refuge areas include:
*The area around the E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center to Granger
Creek.
*All park areas north of Catfish Creek.
*An area adjacent to the parking lots near Olde Massey Road.
