Commercial property owners in one of the city's oldest
neighborhoods will be able to claim a three-year tax break next year
on major improvements.
The Dubuque City Council voted 7-0 Monday night to approve the
Washington Neighborhood Urban Revitalization District.
The plan, which enlarges the former Washington Street Urban
Revitalization District to include all of the Washington Neighborhood
Association area, will not only allow residential but also commercial
tax abatement for property improvements.
"This might be a way to improve the appearance of the neighborhood
as well as maintain or increase its supply of jobs," said Dave
Harris, city Housing and Community Development director.
