The latest burst of snow hitting the tri-state area should produce
excellent cross-country skiing opportunities this weekend at two
popular Dubuque County sites.
The Mines of Spain State Recreation Area on Dubuque's southeast
side features about five miles of prime cross-country skiing trails;
the Swiss Valley Nature Preserve, four miles. Mines and Swiss Valley
staff are grooming trails in anticipation of partly cloudy skies and
temperatures climbing into the mid-20s.
Swiss Valley's Stream Bottom Trail loops along a branch of Swiss
Valley Creek, protected from the wind, in a valley surrounded by
heavily-wooded hills.
