Article: Unionization effort gets under way for Head Start; Operation: New View program employees look to organize

In what appears to be the first organized labor campaign of a Head Start program in Iowa, employees of Operation: New View Community Action Agency are courting union representation.

And the low-income advocacy group appears to be preparing to fight the unionization effort, according to Dubuque organized labor sources.

Wayne Laufenberg, business representative for District 6 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, on Wednesday confirmed that members of the Head Start staff late last year approached the union, seeking representation.
